HapiBlogging to you my friend! Have a nice day!
I just watched the screener of Ghost Ride The Whip. It was a great movie. Very well thought out and presented. The movie was much more than Ghostriding. In fact out of an hour and 20 minutes, there was about 20 minutes about it. The rest was a dedication to The Bay Area lifestyle. More than that it was tribute to Mac Dre, the legendary rapper from Vallejo who was poised to be the nations next "overnight" superstar. I had heard of Mac Dre when I was in Korea in 1993. I had no idea he so influential. After viewing this movie, it makes me want to go get Mac Dre's greatest hits.
It starts off with about 30 minutes of education of what makes Oakland unique. It covers the politics, The Black Panther Party and of course the pimps. The Bay Area has a 50 year history of doing things their way. I think the biggest liability of this documentary is it's title. Like I said, it has little to do with the dangerous art of getting out of your car while it is still moving and dancing on and around it. The name does not do it justice. With appearances by West Coast giants like Too Short, Dwayne Wiggins, Mistah FAB,MC Hammer and national wide stars like Chamillionaire it is much bigger than "Ghostriding". It is about a movement.
